Getting Started in the Studio
When you are ready to start recording, there are a few things you should know. The list below will help you prepare for your sessions as much as possible. The more prepared you are the better your session will go.
- If you're a guitar/bass player of any kind, BRING A TUNER.
- If you're bringing a drummer, ask him about using my studio kit, snares, or cymbals. (See gear page) They all sound great and the kit will have new heads for your session. This might save your band a lot of headaches, but again, you're welcome to bring whatever kit your drummer is most comfortable with.
- If you're booked for a whole day, plan on taking a lunch break. You will NOT BE CHARGED for this time.
- Bring snacks/water to your session if you can. Keeping yourself going in the studio is a MUST! You want to stay alert and creative as long as possible and snacks/water help a ton.
- I have high speed wireless internet (400kb/sec) so bring your laptops to check email, shop Ebay, ect....
- Bring the BEST GEAR u can beg, borrow, or steal! A tube guitar amp SMOKES a Line 6 Pod, as does a Les Paul a Fender Squire. Bringing a high-end acoustic guitar (most guitars over $1400) makes all the difference in the mix. Great Gear + Great Musician + Geat Performance = GREAT TRACK!!! -Have tempos for your songs figured out before hand as much as possible. This will save you a lot of time!
- Make sure your band KNOWS the material before you start tracking. Just "figuring it out" in the studio makes for a VERY EXPENSIVE rehearsal :)
- Make charts for your tunes before you come in. That helps me know where we are in a song as well as keeps the overdub process free of confusion.
